Municipal Section of Aisonia

The Aisonia is named after Aeson, one of the three sons of king Kritheas and Tyros, who according to mythology founded the Thessalian city of Aeson, near Sesklo. Aeson married Polimidi and had a son, Jason, who became head of the Argonautic Expedition.

The City of Aisonia resulted from the merger of the neighboring communities Dimini and Sesklo, which have become world famous for two prehistoric settlements. Items unearthed from the excavations in these settlements illuminate the Neolithic era in the Gulf of Pagasitikos as well as in Thessaly in general.

Visit the oldest settlements in Europe in the Municipality Aisonia, in a very short distance from the city of Volos.
