The views on the origin of the village name is-as usual- περισσότερες της μιας.

-Το χωριό πήρε το όνομα αυτό από τον πρώτο του οικιστή που λεγόταν Δράκος.

-In the tradition, a mythological beast (dragon) lived in. Indeed, το πρώτο κοινοτικό συμβούλιο αποφάσισε να φέρει η σφραγίδα της Κοινότητας την παράσταση πτερωτού δράκου με κεφάλι φιδιού και ουρά σκορπιού.

- The village's name comes from the word meaning DRAX handful hand, κι αυτό γιατί το χωριό είναι χτισμένο σε βαθουλωτό μέρος και δίνει την εντύπωση ότι είναι χτισμένο σε μια χούφτα.

-In Czech, draga mean passage (the village is a passage from the eastern side of Pelion in the western). Πρόκειται για εκδοχή εξαιρετικά αδύναμη.

Brief Chronology:

The Drakeia created, like almost all the villages of Pelion, concentrations than those working in settlements-in late Byzantium- σε κτήματα μοναστηριών.

As is known, Pelion was the second Mt Athos, is called, after 10 m. X. αιώνα, “Βουνό των Κελίων”.

The workers was added, later, νομάδες Ηπειρώτες οι οποίοι διέφευγαν τους διωγμούς.

Το όνομα Δράκεια πρωτοπαρουσιάζεται σε έγγραφα του 16^ου αιώνα. Specifically, there is a document that is the intention of the Great Meteora and is estimated to have been deposited between 1520 και 1640.

Also, document is a donation to the Holy Sepulchre compiled about a hundred years later (1658). It 1614 had 147 families, οι περισσότερες των οποίων είχαν έλθει από την Ήπειρο.

In the early 18th century, residents Drakia developed crafts (mainly silk) and barter trade. But most of them were engaged in the cultivation of olive trees and apple and some others of wood. Drakeia In, as in other villages of Pelion, υπήρχαν νερόμυλοι που άλεθαν σιτάρι.  Στις αρχές του 20^ου αιώνα, abundant water, as has been done with Portaria, offers Drakeiotes, τη δυνατότητα να δουν τα σπίτια και τους δρόμους τους να φωταγωγούνται.

On 17 Δεκεμβρίου 1943, Germans, retaliation, invaded Drakeia, entered the main village cafe, and arrested most men. At dawn on December 18 took them, in groups, the adjacent river and executed. The Drakeia then lamented 118 victims. The old state characteristics that red, the blothf the Martyrs, νερό του ποταμού έφτασε μέχρι την Αγριά.

For this reason, the Drakeia featured martyred village. At the point of execution there is a monument with a votive column, όπου αναγράφονται τα ονόματα των πεσόντων.

Prevalent is the view expressed by Lechonitis Scholar Patroclus Palamidas that the name came from the church that existed in ancient times and was dedicated to Artemis Agra. The linguistic evolution of Agra in Agria is particularly believable(such as oils – olive, Graia – old and Agra – Αγριά),

Throwback: Agria extends along the beach Pagassitikos about six miles southeast of Volos and is the nearest suburb. Is relatively new town(became the community 1912). Η περιοχή της ανήκε παλιότερα στην Δράκια και τον Άγιο Λαυρέντιο των οποίων αποτελούσε επίνειο από όπου αυτά καθώς και τα άλλα χωριά διακινούσαν τα αγWormwoodά και βιοτεχνικά προϊόντα τους.

Initially there were only small huts where the people of dragons and Saint. Λαυρεντίου κατέβαιναν τον χειμώνα προκειμένου να μαζέψουν τις ελιές.

During the Turkish Agria, there was a settlement. However, the first houses were built in the early 19th century before the Revolution 1821. A note joke and very interesting to Agria says : «Η Αγριά ήτο επί Τουρκοκρατίας απλός τελωνειακός και στρατιωτικός σταθμός».

It is characteristic that in 1920 an English commercial paper issued reports Agria as "the world's largest port 'in export olives and oil. Γύρω στις διακόσιες χιλιάδες οκάδες βρώσιμων ελιών εκτελωνίζονταν κάθε χρόνο από την Αγριά.

Agria began to grow rapidly after the annexation of Thessaly, construction of coastal road and rail later, who linked Volos with the villages of southwestern Pelion, με αποτέλεσμα να εξαχθή δια θαλάσσης εξαγωγικό εμπόριο μαύρων ελαίων και φρούτων από τον όρμο της.
A new wave of residents moved to Agria 1922 όταν πρόσφυγες από την Μικρά Ασία αλλά κυρίως από Ανατολική Θράκη καταφύγανε εδώ μετά το διωγμό τους από τα πατρικά τους χώματα.

Τον 20 Agria century saw population and industrial development. The famous factory founded in EPSA 1924 by brothers Kosmadopouloi bank owners to build refrigerated fruit and ice plant. Overproduction of the region lemons and already developed movement of traditional lemonade from Asia Minor sellers, leading owners in recruiting German engineers to operate bottling plant beverage. According to legend, the German engineer has discovered a rare recipe for producing lemonade, συνταγή που ακόμη και σήμερα χρησιμοποιείται αναλλοίωτη και αποτελεί παρακαταθήκη της εταιρείας.
Το 1911 foundedA.G.E.T GCC. The plant has a natural harbor and falls among the largest cement manufacturers in Europe, Ασίας και Αμερικής.

Other local businesses were founded and flourished then as the plant I.Matsango involved in processing, packaging and marketing of olives, the woodworking craft was originally built drums and modernizing industry turned into woodworking and furniture while. Also other smaller companies-mainly oil depots – άρχισαν να λειτουργούν και να προσελκύουν πληθυσμό στον Δήμο της Αγριάς.

Foundation Nicholas and Helen Porphyrogenis:The Foundation was established in Porfyrogeneio 1978 residents of Agria and internationally renowned professionals Porphyrogenis Nicholas and his wife Helen Porphyrogenis. The purpose of including the founders put it in their speech is to become an exemplary center of intellectual development, social solidarity and raising the living standards of the city and finally a center of cultural events highlighting the Agria as enviable example of imitation. This was accomplished and achieved in the following ways:
(a) establishing a cultural center in Agria and large library (launch 1994) which incorporates the private library of the founders Nick. και Ελένης Πορφυρογένη και δωρεές τρίτων προσώπων.
(b) the construction of the municipal offices which houses all the community services, offices, conference room etc.. (Establishment 1990).
(c) incentives to promote historic, geophysicist, οικονομικού και ψυχαγωγικού ενδιαφέροντος προς συγκράτηση στην περιοχή της Αγριάς του πλυθυσμού της και προς έλκυση τουριστικής κινήσεως.
(d) by strengthening – through scholarships – νέων που ανήκουν στις οικογένειες της κωμοπόλεως Αγριάς και της περιοχής της και οι οποίοι στερούνται οικονομικά μέσα αλλά διαθέτουν τα προσόντα να σπουδάσουν και να αναδειχθούν σαν επαγγελματίες.

The cultural center known as Porfyrogeneio which began operating in 1994 has the following locations:
Basement- Exhibition hall of the cultural center area 170 τ.μ. with appropriate lighting and security, with vestibule 50 τ.μ., χώρους υγιεινής και λοιπούς βοηθητικούς χώρους.
Ground floor -Theatre area 170 τ.μ. Scene 40 sq.m. 150 Seat. It offers entry hall 80 τ.μ. leading to the basement and first floor to the lobby and serves as the theater, περιλαμβάνει ιματιοθήκη και θέση διανομής πληροφοριακών εντύπων.
Floor: Library's cultural center 180 τ.μ., reading room and outdoor area 120 τ.μ. to which it is possible to hold events during the summer
The institution has the entire cultural center for a series of events. The gallery has organizmies of visual events (painting, sculpture, etching) and the theater has hosted artistic and scientific events, theater, conferencsm�μιλίες κλπ.
