Origin placename:

The views on the origin of the village name is-as usual- περισσότερες της μιας.

-In the tradition, a mythological beast (dragon) lived in.

- The village's name comes from the word meaning DRAX handful hand, κι αυτό γιατί το χωριό είναι χτισμένο σε βαθουλωτό μέρος και δίνει την εντύπωση ότι είναι χτισμένο σε μια χούφτα.

-In Czech, draga mean passage (the village is a passage from the eastern side of Pelion in the western).

Brief Chronology:

The Drakeia created, like almost all the villages of Pelion, concentrations than those working in settlements-in late Byzantium- σε κτήματα μοναστηριών.

As is known, Pelion was the second Mt Athos, is called, after 10 m.

The workers was added, later,

Specifically, there is a document that is the intention of the Great Meteora and is estimated to have been deposited between 1520 και 1640.

Also, document is a donation to the Holy Sepulchre compiled about a hundred years later (1658).

In the early 18th century, residents Drakia developed crafts (mainly silk) and barter trade. But most of them were engaged in the cultivation of olive trees and apple and some others of wood. Drakeia In, as in other villages of Pelion, Στις αρχές του 20ου αιώνα, abundant water, as has been done with Portaria, offers Drakeiotes, τη δυνατότητα να δουν τα σπίτια και τους δρόμους τους να φωταγωγούνται.

On 17 Δεκεμβρίου 1943, Germans, retaliation, invaded Drakeia, entered the main village cafe, and arrested most men. At dawn on December 18 took them, in groups, the adjacent river and executed. The Drakeia then lamented 118 victims. The old state characteristics that red, the blothf the Martyrs,

For this reason, the Drakeia featured martyred village. At the point of execution there is a monument with a votive column,

The Drakeia with glorious past resists and hopes for the future

The foundation of the settlement ofΔράκειαςcould be fitted to the mid-15th century or early 16th century. In an idyllic and evocative environment, was built in the time ofTurkishvillageΔράκεια, the depth of a large socket extending right and left to the gorges crossing the two sides of the hill as the amphitheater square extending toward the back of the knollAthos, where the observer may be facing thePagassitikosstunt. Η Δράκειαamphitheater is built at an altitude 490-560 meters from the sea. The mill'sMichouthe lower building in the village, an altitude 355 μέτρα.

AtΔράκειαthe sun rises in the late morning and early evening reigns, thus iliazetai village only a few hours. For these reasons, the village is cool during summer. Contrast is sheltered in winter and protected from north winds by the mountain of the overlyingPliasidi. Η Δράκειαgifted by nature as the climate, to be considered a favored and privileged village. Οι Δημητριείς (D. FilippídisκαιΓ. Konstantas) στη Neoteriki Geographyτους, issued inViennaτο 1791 write in the most vivid way the natural beauty ofΔράκειας: “Δράκια (the), in eastern Portaria back from a ledge, country where big is 600 σπίτια, most beautiful and big and causing an enormous view to those where they are seen by’ opposite, overgrown with trees and this Carpio and katarryti of water.”

For the etymology of the name are different views. KyrtsoniThe village took its name from aDragonwho was the first settler. Κατά τον A. Grivas the Drakeiathe name comes from the mythical tradition. KordatounameΔράκειαis not Greek, but palaioslavikWhengave many place names in the area, called this regiondredgefrom the Slavic worddrag, means omorfotopos. In another aspect of the Slavic common nounDrakawhich means low barbed plant, Paliouri. Opinions differ, and the spelling of. For others should be written withifassuming that comes from defteroklito name (Δράκος - ΔράκειC/strong>) κατά το Alexander- Alexandria. For others the formation of the name of the city leads to be written iniotaδηλ.Δράκια. ΗΔράκεια κατά το 19ο αιώναwas one of the villages ofΠηλίου. Το 1860 the inhabitants was2500and was the fourth village in terms of population in the county, after theSalty, Makrynitsa and Zagora. Το 1882 has been shown to2637 κατοίκους. From that Τοntil1886were autonomous municipality. Ο Bro. Molochadis το (1901) writes: “Has 2800 inhabitants, three-grade Greek School, Primary males and females and seaportτην Αγριά“. Before the war (1940) the population was in1799 κατοίκους.

After the war, theΔράκεια the one follows the fate of the Greek mountain villages apoplithysmopoiountai constantly. On the other two into the tragic events20ο αιώναwas to achieattoΔράκειαEvening17ης Δεκεμβρίου 1943German extracts of Es – S invading village arrest the men of the village and the other day at18 Δεκεμβρίου του Αγ. Modesto, perform118them. That were able to neutralize manpower this brutal behavior, will complete 12 years after beating theEnceladus. Η Δράκειαwho exemplified Pilioritian settlement, badly hit by earthquakes1955 χάνοντας οριστικά τα θαυμάσια αρχοντικά της.

The formation of urban Drakia τοveloped lines around a central path that climbed the slope and has now been converted into roadway. With many veins supplemented grid, while the mainstay crossed underneath until up the village, connecting both squares. It's SquareSt. Nicholaslow and well above the SquareΑγ. Athanasios.

Most of the old housesΔράκειαςwas truly an example of traditional architecture. Οι Δημητριείςwrite about a the Drakeia: “. is 600 σπίτια, most beautiful and big and cause a Terpni views to those who are seen from opposite“. Ο Argyris Filippídisspeaking homes in Apples notes: “. The country as eiritai, is large and well spitia, as the dragons“. The mansions were named as the big houses, usually had two but mostly three-storey building, λιθόκτιστες στο μεγάλο μέρος τους.

TodayΔράκειατων500-600 μόνιμων κατοίκωνwinter, resists and hopes for the future. The future of, in absolute numbers are 26 childrenElementary schoolandKindergarten (not inconsiderable number, if we consider that in villages of Greece with the corresponding population, schools close failing children.) However, in order to keep young people in the village need growth prospects. The completion of the roadΑγριάς -Δράκεια – Chania, and the opening of the roadΑγ. Lawrence – Δράκειαςwill makeΔράκεια a hub helping to tourist development. The establishment and improvement of a number of infrastructure (improving traditional cobbled, creation of the car park, improvement of rural roads, a museum rural and cultural heritage, etc.) will help develop. Η Δράκειαwith its rich cultural heritage worth except martyred villageΠηλίου, agaiΟcome one of thevillages τουΠηλίου.

Name Place (Αγριά): About the name of Agria have shown different views. Predominately are four. One wants the name of Agria come from the plant Agria(-iados ), the other of wild olives arriving until then on the beach (Oleaster- Agrilia after Agria) και η άλλη από την έκφραση εκ της άγρας των αλιέων».

Prevalent is the view expressed by Lechonitis Scholar Patroclus Palamidas that the name came from the church that existed in ancient times and was dedicated to Artemis Agra. The linguistic evolution of Agra in Agria is particularly believable(such as oils – olive, Graia – old and Agra – Αγριά),

Throwback: Agria extends along the beach Pagassitikos about six miles southeast of Volos and is the nearest suburb. Is relatively new town(became the community 1912).

Initially there were only small huts where the people of dragons and Saint.

During the Turkish Agria, there was a settlement. However, the first houses were built in the early 19th century before the Revolution 1821. A note joke and very interesting to Agria says : «Η Αγριά ήτο επί Τουρκοκρατίας απλός τελωνειακός και στρατιωτικός σταθμός».

Since 1809 – 1860 creating a business and export trade craft and cooperage with good organization that helped a little time the Pelion products spread in Western Europe, τη Ρουμανία και τη Ρωσία.
It is characteristic that in 1920 an English commercial paper issued reports Agria as "the world's largest port 'in export olives and oil. Γύρω στις διακόσιες χιλιάδες οκάδες βρώσιμων ελιών εκτελωνίζονταν κάθε χρόνο από την Αγριά.

Agria began to grow rapidly after the annexation of Thessaly, construction of coastal road and rail later, who linked Volos with the villages of southwestern Pelion, με αποτέλεσμα να εξαχθή δια θαλάσσης εξαγωγικό εμπόριο μαύρων ελαίων και φρούτων από τον όρμο της.
A new wave of residents moved to Agria

Τον 20 Agria century saw population and industrial development. The famous factory founded in EPSA 1924 by brothers Kosmadopouloi bank owners to build refrigerated fruit and ice plant. Overproduction of the region lemons and already developed movement of traditional lemonade from Asia Minor sellers, leading owners in recruiting German engineers to operate bottling plant beverage. According to legend, the German engineer has discovered a rare recipe for producing lemonade,
Το 1911 foundedA.G.E.T GCC. The plant has a natural harbor and falls among the largest cement manufacturers in Europe, Ασίας και Αμερικής.

Other local businesses were founded and flourished then as the plant I.Matsango involved in processing, packaging and marketing of olives, the woodworking craft was originally built drums and modernizing industry turned into woodworking and furniture while. Also other smaller companies-mainly oil depots – άρχισαν να λειτουργούν και να προσελκύουν πληθυσμό στον Δήμο της Αγριάς.

Το 1999 with Kapodistrias plan a new municipality was established and includes the towns Agria and dragons, οι οποίες αποτελούσαν ως τότε ξεχωριστές κοινότητες.
The Municipality of Agria is now a traditional village with a population of around 6.500 ατόμων.
