Μετά την αγορά του κτήματος και την εγκατάσταση των Αγχιαλιτών το μεγαλύτερο πρόβλημα ήταν η ελονοσία και η αιματουρία από τις οποίες προσβάλλονταν οι κάτοικοι .Επειδή η Νοτιοδυτική περιοχή της Νέας Αγχιάλου ήταν βαλτώδης και στα νερά των βάλτων υπήρχαν μολυσμένα κουνούπια και οι αρρώστιες αυτές προκάλεσαν το θάνατο πολλών κατοίκων Παράλληλα υπήρχε η ανέχεια και η πείνα και πολλοί έπαιρναν τις οικογένειες τους και έφευγαν. Today the population has Anchialos 7.423 residents and August 1994 ανακηρύχθηκε σε δήμο.
