Paliouri

To the west of the city of Volos and just 3 km. from Dimini is here 200 years the settlement of Paliouri. It is a traditional village, between mountains, which is built entirely of stone, and which was developed in the 19th century to the mid 20th century. The cultivable land amounts to 15 000 sq.m. The main crops are olives, pear, vines and cereals. Παράλληλα αναπτύσσεται η κτηνοτροφία.

All buildings Paliouri, except seven buildings constructed after the earthquake of 1955-57, are constructed and roofed with stones from the area. Today Paliouri are about a hundred houses, most of which are damaged. The first houses of the village were three floors. The program of the municipality aims to preserve and promote the traditional settlement of Paliouri. The traditional architecture of the region is a historical and cultural monument. The long-term result of the operation will encourage the development of areas that are not highly developed and upland areas that have been neglected and not very tourist development (despite the fact that they have very rich cultural background and heritage). The program will contribute to the containment of the local population, restoration of traditional buildings and the development of employment in the region. Parallel, contribute to building a network of partnerships between municipalities that will have as its ultimate objective the promotion of traditional settlements. Such cooperation can simultaneously play a pivotal role for other municipalities that are not members of the network, but have historical and cultural monuments, δίνοντάς τους τη δυνατότητα να οργανώσουν δράσεις κοινού συμφέροντος και πολιτισμικής προσέγγισης.
