Lehonia (Upper and Lower)
Προέλευση τοπωνυμίου:

The Kordatos, in his book "History of the Province of Volos and Agia", says that the name "Lehonia" is Slavic. The name is derived from the word that Lech, in Slavic, plain meaning. Because Lehonia is built on the plain, πήραν την ονομασία αυτή.

According to another theory, The word "Lehonia" comes from the peppermint plant glichon (mint). The diminutive is glichon chlichonion. According to this theory, must be cultivated or grew in a lot of mint Lehonia. Γι΄ αυτό ο τόπος λεγόταν “Γληχώνιον” και από “Γληχώνι” έγινε “Λεχώνι”.

Μια άλλη γνώμη είναι ότι το τοπωνύμιο “Λεχώνια” είναι παραφθαρμένο το όνομα της αρχαίας πόλης των Μαγνήτων “Μεθώνη”.

The Byzantines believed that "Lehonia" is the paraftharmeno "Lykoniko" (by wolf).

A case is also that the place name is Latin and comes from locone, that is magnifying the locus-loco and means manor, chtima, field, χωριό.

The first historical mention we Lechonia the 13th century AD. Saint Blaise
Προέλευση τοπωνυμίου:

The name comes from the church, που είναι αφιερωμένη στον ομώνυμο άγιο και είναι χτισμένη το 1836.

The oldest name of the village was Karabash or KARABAS, that, in Turkish, σημαίνει “μαύρη κεφαλή”.

After the liberation of Thessaly 1881, KARABAS was the district of the municipality Nilias. Το 1914, became an independent community and its name was changed to Saint Blaise. Το 1998, Saint Blaise was a district of the MuniciThety of Artemis, που πρωτεύουσά του είχε τα Άνω Λεχώνια.

Saint Lawrence

The village owes its name to the Convent of St. Lawrence, built byDuring the Turkishuring the Crusades (11th century.).

The monastery of St. Lawrence, later, abandoned to re-built as Orthodox monastery- Blessed by the Lawrence Trapezountio, monk of Great Lavra on Mount Athos. The reconstruction was completed in 1378, με την οικονομική βοήθεια του αυτοκράτορα Αλέξιου Γ΄ Κομνηνού.

The village was inhabited at the time of reconstruction of the Monastery of St. Lawrence (14Century).

The location and the relative autonomy of the region from central powers, led to development of agriculture, craft and trade.
