Origin of placename:
The Kordatos, in his book "History of the Province of Volos and Agia", says that the name "Lehonia" is Slavic. The name is derived from the word that Lech, in Slavic, plain meaning. Because Lehonia is built on the plain, took the name.
According to another theory, The word "Lehonia" comes from the peppermint plant glichon (mint). The diminutive is glichon chlichonion. According to this theory, must be cultivated or grew in a lot of mint Lehonia. So the place was called "Glichonion" and "Glichoni" became "Lehonia".
Another opinion is that the place name "Lehonia" paraftharmeno is the name of the ancient city of magnets "Methoni".
The Byzantines believed that "Lehonia" is the paraftharmeno "Lykoniko" (by wolf).
A case is also that the place name is Latin and comes from locone, that is magnifying the locus-loco and means manor, chtima, field, village.
The first historical mention we Lechonia the 13th century AD. As stated in old documents and time, the Byzantine ruler Michael Palaeologus gave the village a dowry to his daughter Anna, when she married the prince of Achaia Franc Villehardouin. Later, was owned by the family Melissinos, to pass, then, in Catalan.
During the Turkish, The Turks built the village fortified towers, wanting to secure their families and their belongings.
Administrative, Lechonia belonged to Chasia.

The river separates Lechonia from Kala Nera, in antiquity, called roaring around and keeps the same name, until today. Called roaring.

After the liberation of Thessaly 1881, KARABAS was the district of the municipality Nilias. Το 1914, became an independent community and its name was changed to Saint Blaise. Το 1998, Saint Blaise was a district of the MuniciThety of Artemis, which was the capital of Upper Lehonia.
During the Turkish, The settlement of Paliokastro, located in the gully between the Upper and San Lehonia Vlasio, almost exclusively inhabited by Turks. Naturally, in the village mosque and there was (mosque) whose tower (minaret) survived partly ruined by the end of the 20th century.

The village owes its name to the Convent of St. Lawrence, built by Roman Catholic Benedictine monks (the Amalfinous), during the Crusades (11th century.).
Brief Chronology:

The village was inhabited at the time of reconstruction of the Monastery of St. Lawrence (14Century).
The location and the relative autonomy of the region from central powers, led to development of agriculture, craft and trade. So, in later centuries, with the advent of new residents – Epirus, Vlach and islanders – and the development of agriculture and commerce, The village grew very, to reach a peak in the late 17th century to mid 19th century.
The Agiolafrentites cultivated olive and fruit trees on the slopes, below the village to the valley between wild and Lehonia, and trade of olive to the Balkans and the Southern, yielded large profits.
During the Revolution 1821, the monk Cassavetes has signed the revolutionary call for the liberation of Thessaly, in the reception room of the Monastery of St. Lawrence.
Much of the pilgrimage site are the hoarded relics of, originating from the St. Lawrence, New martyr St..
