The Anakasia located west before Ano Volos. The origin of place names have been several respects. According to them the name may have originated:
• FromAkasto, son of King Pelias Iolkou.
• From the word sitting up → anakat'sia denoting “place in the high,where newcomers settled”.
• From the word forced,because the years of Ottoman,the locals passing by necessity to pay taxes.
Aince 1991 is the seat of Iolkos. A particular point of reference is the katastolisto from 1912 with paintings of folk artist Θεόφιλουhome Yannis Kontos, Since 1981 operates as Theophilos Museum.
H Church St. John of Baptist Located in Anakasia and The Cathedral City Iolkou. Burned many times by the Turks rebuilt bolder after each arson. The last building lasted until the destructive earthquakes of the years 1955 to 1956, when the church of St. John of ANAKASIA fatally injured. After the repaired bell, The bells of the stroke again 1960. Reconstruction work without being tampered with roof and interior lasted two years, from 1965 to 1967.
The church is a three-aisled Basilica. Two sets of three columns divide the church into three naves.'s A rectangular building with a roof,without a dome like Byzantine churches.
Thej old frescoes on the ceiling and large icons, are exceptional art. At the top of the image of the decapitation of St. in’ a large table depicted many diners. Among Herod and Herodias. In the center of the image is the executioner, husky, with wild side, who in his left hand holding the head of the saint and to the right a bloody sword. Adjacent is Salome, which keeps a disk on which to place the head of John the Baptist.
