Origin placename:
The village Portaria named the "Virgin Portaria", a 16th century chapel (1581), built on the site where there was a dependency of the Monastery Petra Baptist New. The monastery was founded in the first half of the 13th century, by local rulers of Demetriada.
Brief Chronology:
Portaria, along with Makrynitsa, were, the Byzantine period, a large settlement called "Upper Dryanoybaina". This settlement, like almost all the villages of Pelion, created by concentrations of the peasants and the workers of the nearby monasteries.
