Responsibilities of Cleaning & Recycle

The Clean and Recycle Directorate is responsible for ensuring the collection and transport of waste, separate collection and transport of recyclable materials, ensuring the cleanliness of communal areas and the maintenance of the vehicles of the Municipality. The Directorate also has the competence of Civil Protection at the level

The Department is managed administratively and operates as its decentralized units, the Department of Cleaning and Recycling of the municipal unit of N. Ionia and the multipurpose Departments of Clean and Recycling, Green, Infrastructure Maintenance and Cemetery of the municipal units of Agria and Portaria.

• It supervises the process of implementation and operation of decisions and regulatory acts concerning the departments and departments of the Directorate.
• It studies and recommends measures to improve the operation of the departments and departments of the Directorate.

Civil Protection Office

He takes care of and suggests the design of civil protection in the area of the Municipality. To this end, it cooperates closely with the Technical Services Directorate for Disaster Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Rehabilitation, as well as with the Green Department for the organization of fire protection and preventive measures to protect vulnerable areas (peri-forest, parks etc.) from a fire event. • Supports coordination and oversees civil protection work to prevent, prepare and mobilize the necessary resources and instruments for dealing with and remedying disasters if they occur within the administrative boundaries of the Municipality of Volos.
• It ensures, in cooperation with the Technical and Green Department, the procurement, safekeeping, allocation of means of action and the coordination of the necessary capacities for the prevention, preparedness, response and destruction of disasters.
• It elaborates more specific proposals to the competent services for the protection of the forest areas of the Municipality, participates in the organization of the fire protection of the forests and makes proposals for the rehabilitation of the forests. In this context, it is working, in cooperation with the Green Administration, to clean up areas sensitive to fires (eg forests, parks, etc.).
• It ensures that civil protection plans are kept and updated.
• In general, it executes any act and action deemed necessary for the organization and implementation of civil protection work.

Civil defence

• It exercises the responsibilities of the Civil Defense as defined by the circular orders and instructions of the overarching Civil Defense services.
• Performs any work relating to that competence.

Department of Design, Surveillance and Disposal of Waste and Recyclable Materials

• It shall study the organization and operation of the collection and transport system and shall ensure the issue of the envisaged collection and transport authorization.
• It studies, plans and proposes to improve the systems and means that are appropriate to ensure the collection and transportation of waste and recyclable materials as well as the cleanliness of communal areas of the Municipality.
• Forms appropriate programs for cleanliness (garbage collection, recyclable materials, road cleaning, special workshops, etc.).

• It identifies the points and assures the placement of waste bins and recycling bins.
• It carries out with the appropriate workshops and technical means the work of collecting urban waste and recycled materials and transporting them to landfills or their processing plants.
• Ensures the washing and keeping in good condition of the refuse collection and recycling bins and refuse collectors.

Department of Cleaning of Shared Areas & Special Workshops

• It carries out with the appropriate workshops and technical means the work of cleaning the roads and other communal areas of the Municipality and the collection of the waste in transhipment sites.
• It is responsible for cleaning the coast.
• He builds special garages and performs similar tasks, such as collecting bulky objects, cleaning from illegal posters and advertising, cleaning abandoned homes,

Department of Vehicle Management and Maintenance

• Performs any other work resulting from its subject.
• In case of work that exceeds the current green maintenance work, it informs the Municipality's Green Administration, which is dealing with it.
